Day 15: Moberly, MO to Oak Grove, KY
Summary:
Roads:
Well, I covered a lot of territory and didn't get rained on. All the roads look alike. Just one photo will do to show what the traveling was like. Sigh. On the other hand, I've got roughly 1,000 miles to go to get to my sister's house. I need to make time. Susie lives on St. George Island off the Florida panhandle, near Apalachicola. She is currently cleaning up the aftermath of Hurricane Dennis. I do appreciate the politeness of the 18-wheelers. They try to leave lots of room while passing, they'll flash their lights to let me know when to pull back into the slow lane when I pass them and they get out of the way when they can't maintain speed on the hills. Why aren't the California truckers like this?
Flame on! Speaking of California: I've got about 3600 miles covered so far on this trip and NOWHERE have I found roads that are as bad as California's roads. Even the country back roads here have a better surface and markings than California's interstates! It is going to be hard to go back and ride on poorly surfaced roads after covering so much territory on GOOD roads. Our state politicians are letting us down - everyone else seems to be getting what they need to maintain their roads. Flame off! |
