Day 18: St. George Island, FL

Mom, Linda, Susie and I spent the day swapping more stories about the olden times. Some things that I had forgotten about were fun to hear again. Later, Linda, Susie and I went down to the beach on the Gulf side of the island to walk on the beach. Unfortunately, I've been pretty weak, so I wasn't able to walk far. Then we took a car ride over to the mainland to look at the damage caused by Emily. Most of the small oyster houses and restaurants that were along the shore facing the bay had been pretty well destroyed. There was lots of debris still piled up around the buildings. There was even a fairly large boat washed right up to the road. The boat was missing quite a bit of planking on the port side. There was lots of trash washed into the woods and brush growing along the bay - that kind of stuff will take quite a while to clean up, maybe years. 

My brother Michael appeared during the late afternoon. He had ridden his 82 Goldwing up from Orlando. It has been many, many years since I had seen him!
